The Moroccan local products sector is listing more than 200 local products and offers a significant annual production potential which exceeds two million tons and which is capable of generating a turnover of more than 14 billion DH per year.

Here are some of the local products you can import from Morocco:

Moroccan Citrus

Over the last decade, Morocco has strengthened its place in the world citrus trade and the Moroccan citrus industry is on the rise. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture released on June 2022, citrus exports are up 42% compared to the result of last year at the same period. In the country, the citrus industry accounts for 20% of agricultural export earnings and employs 150 000 people.

Moroccan Roses

Morocco is known, among other things, for the quality of its perfume rose, acclaimed by international perfume production houses and is the 3rd largest producer and exporter of roses after Bulgaria and Turkey. Following the « Maroc Vert » plan and with the support of the Interprofessional Rose Federation (Fimarose), the sector has seen an increase in its yields. More than 4.000 tons of roses are produced every year on a 1.000 ha land. This industry employs 13 000 people and accounts for 7,68 billion dirhams in export.

Moroccan Olive oil

Olive growing is a fundamental component of Morocco’s agricultural sector and the olive tree represents 65% of the national tree plantation. This sector contributes 5% to the national agricultural GDP and achieves a turnover of around 6.6 billion dirhams with an added value of 5.5 million dirhams in both olives and olive oil. 

Moroccan Argan oil

Morocco is the world's largest producer of argan oil, one of the rarest and most coveted oils in the world. Used in agri-food and cosmetics sector, Morocco produces between 4.000 and 6.000 tons of argan oil per year, and Argan trees are cultivated on over 146.000 ha fields. Its export fluctuates between 1.000 and 1.500 tons each year. In export, Argan Oil represents 273 billion Dirhams of turnover and the industry employs more than 12.000 people.

Moroccan Saffron

Morocco is the world's fourth largest producer of saffron. In a context of growing demand from the world market, Morocco benefits from a particular richness in terms of the rarity of its plant heritage. The reputation of the product and the know-how of its local populations makes Moroccan Saffron one of the most on demand local product, with a production of 6.5 tonnes for an area of ​​more than 1.800 hectares. More than 1,2 tons of yearly production is bound for export either for food of cosmetic needs.

Moroccan Mahjoul Dattes

Majhoul dates from Tafilalet are known and recognized internationally as a noble product. These dates were introduced in various countries of the world under the name of "Medjool". Theyhave specific organoleptic and morphological characteristics: a weight varying from 16 to 22gr, much higher than that of other varieties of dates on a global scale. They have a brown color, lighter in the upper part, with specific dimensions with a length of 4 to 6.5 cm and a width of 2 to 3.5 cm. In 2020, 55.180 Tons of Dates were produced and required a mobilization of 1.5 million working days.

Moroccan Clementines

The Berkane clementine is undoubtedly one of the best varieties of the Moroccan orchard. Flagship product of the region, it has been recognized for years for its quality, especially on European markets. With an area of ​​approximately 21.000 hectares, 16.500 of which are equipped with localized irrigation systems, clementine growing is the main crop in the perimeters of the region, creating more than two million working days annually, and constituting an important source of income with an annual value of approximately 570 million dirhams.

Moroccan Meat Lamb

The Beni Guil sheep breed is increasingly popular with national and foreign markets, particularly Italian and Turkish. This breed of sheep which benefits from the Protected Geographical Indication represents a major asset which concerns more than 400.000 heads of sheep. Taking its name from the Beni Guil tribe located in the provinces of Figuig, Jerada and Taourirt, these are sheep with a dark brown head in the male and slightly light in the female. Sheep renowned for their good conformation which makes them one of the best red meat breeds. The average weight at birth is 3 to 4 kg and fluctuates between 15 and 19 kg at 70 days.

Moroccan Pomegranate

The Moroccan pomegranate and more particularly the "Safri" variety from Ouled Abdellah (province of Fqih Ben Salah) is renowned for being one of the best pomegranates in the world, thanks above all to its very thin skin, its juicy seeds and its flavor which make it the unbeatable fruit of families but also of children who do not hide their attraction for its sweet taste. In the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, the pomegranate sector is considered one of the most profitable productive sectors, which plays a vital role in the social and human development of the rural world, by creating employment opportunities throughout all the production stages (about 300.000 working days in total). The region produces around 52.000 tons per year on its 2.500 ha planted land.

Chefchaouen Goat Cheese


Emblematic of the province of Chefchaouen, fresh organic goat cheese is a specialty of the north of the Kingdom, known for the breeding of its goats. It is made of fermented milk and salt, which allows it to be preserved. Its taste is due to the diversity of vegetation (cork oak and medicinal plants) in northern Morocco which the goats feed on. The Chefchaouen goat cheese appellation applies to 34 municipalities of Mokrisset, Bab Berred, Bab Taza and Baouahmed. It should be noted that the goat herd in the North region (provinces of Tetouan, Tangier, Larache, Chefchaouen and Ouezzane, Al Hoceima) is estimated at 597.000 head, or 10% of the national herd. 60% of the workforce is concentrated in the mountainous areas of the provinces of Chefchaouen and Tétouan where goat breeding plays a major economic role and contributes more than 70% to the income of breeders in this region.
